Gregg Williard was born in Columbus, Ohio and spent his formative years as a writer and painter in New York City. He lives in Madison, Wisconsin and works as an ESL teacher for refugees. His essay “MHW” won the 2019 Brooklyn Film and Arts non-fiction prize, and he is celebrating twenty-four years as the host and producer of the book-reading show “Fiction Jones” on non-commercial WORT FM.

As a big surprise for her birthday, I gave in and bought the dog she’d been wanting for a long time. A frisky little caramel-colored dachshund she immediately named Fredo after the weak Corleone brother in The Godfather, her favorite movie. I thought it an odd name but it was her choice and her dog.
