    Biography

    Andrew Spence is a painter known for his work’s eccentric distillation between abstraction and reference. Spence received a National Endowment for the Arts award in painting in 1987 and a Guggenheim Fellowship in painting in 1994. His artwork is in major museum collections including the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum Of Modern Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art, the Walker Art Center and the Albright-Knox Gallery.
